The USS Barney, designated as DDG-6, was a destroyer in the United States Navy. Named in honor of Joshua Barney, the naval vessel was ordered on March 28, 1957. Built by the New York Shipbuilding in Camden, New Jersey, the ship was laid down on August 10, 1959, and subsequently launched on December 10, 1960.

The USS Barney was acquired by the Navy on July 31, 1962, and was officially commissioned on August 11, 1962, boasting a total active service life of 28 years and 4 months. The ship's hull number was originally DD-956 before being reclassified to DDG-6 on April 23, 1957. It was decommissioned on December 17, 1990, and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on November 20, 1992.

The ship's call sign during its service was NDSD. The final fate of the USS Barney came on February 22, 2006, when it was scrapped.
