USS Chandeleur (AV-10)

The USS Chandeleur (AV-10), named after the Chandeleur Sound in Louisiana, was built by Western Pipe & Steel in San Francisco, California. Its construction began on May 29, 1941, and the seaplane tender was launched six months later on November 29, 1941. It was sponsored by Mrs. F. McCrary and christened as 'Chandeleur'. The vessel was completed and commissioned on November 19, 1942.

The USS Chandeleur remained active for a period of 4 years and 3 months before it was decommissioned on February 12, 1947. It was officially stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on April 1, 1971.

The USS Chandeleur earned five battle stars for its service during World War II. However, its fate was sealed in 1971 when it was subject to ship breaking, effectively closing its chapter in naval history.
