After being in service for around a year and half, The USS Charles E. Brannon (DE-446) was decommissioned on May 21, 1946. However, it was put back into service in August 1946 and remained active for the next 22 years until it was taken out of service on September 23, 1968. This was the same day the ship was stricken.

A little over a year later, on October 27, 1969, the USS Charles E. Brannon was sold for scrapping.
