The USS Cubera (SS-347) was constructed by the General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut. The submarine's construction began on May 11, 1944, and it was subsequently launched a little over a year later, on June 17, 1945. The Cubera was officially commissioned on December 19, 1945. It remained active for approximately 26 years and 1 month before finally being decommissioned on January 5, 1972, on the same day, it was stricken.

The vessel was then transferred to Venezuela that same day, marking its fate.
