The USS Dashiell (DD-659), named after Robert B. Dashiell, was built by the Federal Shipbuilding & Drydock in Kearny, New Jersey. The construction of the ship started on October 1, 1942, and it was launched on February 6, 1943. The Dashiell was commissioned for service on March 20, 1943, and was active for 17 years and 1 month before being decommissioned on April 29, 1960.

USS Dashiell was officially removed from the naval register, a process known as being stricken, on December 1, 1974. The ship met its end when it was sold for scrap on September 21, 1975.
