On February 20, 1960, it was reclassified as AR-22, which marked its transition to a repair ship.

The USS Klondike was stricken on September 15, 1974. During its service, the USS Klondike was honored with one campaign star for its role in the Vietnam War. The ship ultimately met its fate in 1975 when it was scrapped.
