The SS Simmons Victory, named after Simmons College in Boston, was owned by the War Shipping Administration and operated by the Coastwise - Pacific Far East Line during World War II only. This ship was built at the Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation in Portland, Oregon, laid down on February 23, 1945, launched on April 6, 1945, and completed by May 4, 1945. In 1963, it was transferred to the US Navy and renamed as USS Liberty, taking its namesake from localities named "Liberty" in ten US states.

The SS Simmons Victory was acquired on March 25, 1963, commissioned on December 30, 1964, and decommissioned on June 1, 1968, making it active for approximately 3 years and 6 months. It was taken out of service in June 1967 and officially stricken on June 1, 1970.

SS Simmons Victory, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, was damaged beyond economical repair by an Israeli attack in June 1967 and was sold for scrap in 1973.
