USS Piedmont (AD-17)

The USS Piedmont is a ship named after the Piedmont, a plateau region in the eastern United States. Its construction was handled by the Tampa Shipyard in Tampa, Florida, with the laying down process commencing on December 1, 1941. The ship was subsequently launched a year later on December 7, 1942, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Elsa Kauffman.

The USS Piedmont was officially commissioned on January 5, 1944, and remained active for 38 years and 8 months before being decommissioned on September 30, 1982. On August 6, 1987, it was stricken before being leased to the Turkish Navy on October 18, 1982.

USS Piedmont was later formally transferred to the Turkish Navy on August 17, 1987, where it served as TCG Derya from 1982 to 1994. It was removed from the Turkish Navy's register in 1994 before being scrapped in 1995.
