The USS Pomfret was decommissioned for the first time in April 1952, and subsequently recommissioned on December 5, 1952. The ship was decommissioned for the second time on July 1, 1971, and stricken on August 1, 1973. Its fate was sealed when it was transferred to Turkey on July 1, 1971, and eventually sold to Turkey on August 1, 1973.
