The USS Saratoga, also known as CV-60, CVA-60, and CVB-60, was named after Saratoga and ordered on July 23, 1952. It was built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York, at a cost of $209.7 million. The ship was laid down on December 16, 1952, and launched on October 8, 1955.

Acquired and consequently commissioned on April 14, 1956, the USS Saratoga remained active for nearly 38 years and 4 months before being decommissioned on August 20, 1994. During its time of service, it was reclassified twice, first to CVA-60 on October 1, 1952, then to CV-60 on June 30, 1972.

The USS Saratoga was identified by the callsign NJRS and had the hull number CVB-60. After being stricken on August 20, 1994, the same day it was decommissioned, the ship was ultimately scrapped.
