USS Simon Lake (AS-33)

The USS Simon Lake (AS-33), bearing the name of Simon Lake, was built at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard located in Bremerton, Washington. The construction of the ship commenced on January 7, 1963, and it was launched a little over a year later, on February 8, 1964. The ship was officially put into service on November 7, 1964.

The USS Simon Lake served actively for nearly 35 years before being decommissioned on July 31, 1999. After many years of service, the Simon Lake was taken out of service and stored at the Norfolk Naval Shipyards in Portsmouth, Virginia, becoming part of the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility’s inventory.

In 2015, USS Simon Lake was moved to the National Defense Reserve Fleet in James River. Regrettably, the ship was dismantled on February 27, 2019.
