The USS Talbot (FFG-4) was named in honor of Silas Talbot. Its order was placed on May 24, 1963, with the Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine handling its construction. The laying down of the ship happened on May 4, 1964, and it was eventually launched on January 6, 1966. Acquisition of the USS Talbot occurred on April 14, 1967, and its commissioning took place shortly after on April 22, 1967.

USS Talbot was in active service for 21 years and 5 months before it was officially decommissioned on September 30, 1988. The USS Talbot was then stricken from the naval register on November 29, 1993. The fate of the ship was sealed on March 9, 1994, when it was sold for scrapping.
