The USS Ulysses B. Grant (SSBN-631) was a submarine named after Ulysses S. Grant (1822–1885), an American Civil War general and the 18th President of the United States who served from 1869 to 1877. The vessel was ordered on July 20, 1961, from the General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut. The construction process started with it being laid down on August 18, 1962, and it was launched on November 2, 1963. Mrs. David W. Griffiths took the honor of sponsoring the submarine.

The USS Ulysses B. Grant was commissioned on July 17, 1964, and remained active for approximately 27 years and 11 months before being decommissioned and stricken on June 12, 1992. Its fate was decided through the Ship-Submarine Recycling Program, which completed the scrapping process on October 23, 1993.
