Shortly after, USS Whiteside was stricken from the Navy list on July 1, 1961. Throughout her service, the ship earned notable honours and awards, including 2 battle stars in World War II and 4 battle stars during the Korean conflict. Her final fate came in 1971, when she was sunk as a target ship.
