The USS Yorktown (CV-10, CVA-10, CVS-10) was named after the Battle of Yorktown and built by the Newport News Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia. Its construction began on December 1, 1941, and it was launched on January 21, 1943.

The Yorktown was first commissioned on April 15, 1943, then decommissioned on January 9, 1947, only to be recommissioned on January 2, 1953, and finally decommissioned a second time on June 27, 1970. Thus, the ship was active for a cumulative total of 17 years and 6 months.

Throughout its life, USS Yorktown was reclassified twice — as CVA-10 on October 1, 1952, and as CVS-10 on September 1, 1957. It was officially stricken on June 1, 1973. The ship's callsign was NWKJ and its hull number was CV-10. Known as "The Fighting Lady," it is now a museum ship located at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
