U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust Fund: Claim Types, Payments and Legal Options

The U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust has updated its claim submission and processing methods, transitioning to a new facility, Verus LLC, in 2020. This transition comes with an extension on deadlines, ensuring that claimants are given the adequate time they need.

Introduction to U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust

The U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust, an essential institution dedicated to asbestos settlement claims, has witnessed significant changes in its operations in the recent past. With a primary aim to streamline and improve claim processing, the Trust has transitioned to a new facility and introduced adjustments to key submission dates for claimants.

U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust Purpose and Functions

The primary goal of the U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust is to manage and process claims related to asbestos personal injuries. Established to be a reliable bridge between claimants and their settlements, the Trust ensures fair processing and adequate compensation for those affected. In the spirit of continuous improvement, the Trust periodically reviews its procedures and partners to ensure they're best suited for the claimants' needs.

U.S. Mineral Asbestos Trust Claim Submission and Resolution

In a recent strategic move, as of January 1, 2020, the Trust temporarily halted all claim submissions and processing. This includes both newly submitted and earlier-filed claims. The motive behind this decision was the transition to a more robust claims processing facility, Verus LLC. Until December 31, 2019, claims were accepted through CRMC. However, with the introduction of Verus LLC, the claims will resume processing on or before April 1, 2020. To ensure a smooth transition and clear communication, the Trust will notify all claimants and their respective legal representatives at least two weeks in advance, providing specific details on submitting new claims or accessing details of previously filed ones.

Recognizing the potential inconvenience caused by the transition, the Trust has made provisions for an extension. Any Trust claim with a deadline falling between January 1 and December 31, 2020, will now have its deadline extended to December 31, 2020. Similarly, deadlines for responses to deficiency notifications or acceptance offers during this transition period have also been generously extended to the end of the year.
