USS Blue (DD-744)

The USS Blue (DD-744) was named after John S. Blue. It was built by Bethlehem Steel in Staten Island, New York, with the laying of its keel taking place on June 30, 1943. The ship was launched a few months later, on November 28, 1943. The USS Blue was officially commissioned on March 20, 1944. After 26 years and 10 months of active service, it was decommissioned on January 27, 1971.

The USS Blue was stricken on February 1, 1974. Unfortunately, the ship met its fate when it was sunk off the coast of California as a target on April 28, 1977.
