The USS Bristol (DD-857) was a ship named after Mark Lambert Bristol. Its builder was Bethlehem Steel in San Pedro, California. The ship was laid down on May 5, 1944, and was launched later that same year on October 29. Mrs. August Frederick Eberly had the honor of sponsoring the ship. The commissioning of the Bristol took place on March 17, 1945, and it was decommissioned more than 24 years later on November 21, 1969, at which point it was also stricken.
The USS Bristol's callsign was NBEZ and its hull number was DD-857. Its motto was "Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion". Following decommission, the ship was transferred to Taiwan on December 9, 1969.
