USS Canopus (AS-34)
The USS Canopus (AS-34) was named after Canopus and was built by the Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The vessel's construction began on March 2, 1964, and it was launched on February 12, 1965. The Canopus was officially acquired by the navy on October 25, 1965, and was commissioned into service on November 4, 1965. The ship was decommissioned on October 7, 1994, after having served for 28 years and 11 months.
The Canopus was struck from the naval register on May 3, 1995 and was identified by the IMO number 8628353. The vessel was ultimately disposed of at the Able Shipyard located in Teesside, UK in 2010.
