USS Crevalle (SS-291)
The USS Crevalle (SS-291) was built at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Its construction was laid down on November 14, 1942. Shortly after, it was launched on February 22, 1943, and subsequently commissioned on June 24, 1943. The vessel was decommissioned for the first time on July 29, 1946, only to be recommissioned on September 6, 1951.
USS Crevalle was later decommissioned on August 19, 1955, and then recommissioned again on April 11, 1957. The final decommissioning occurred on March 9, 1962, concluding the Crevalle's active service. Throughout its multiple periods of service, USS Crevalle was active for a total of approximately 11 years and 6 months.
The vessel was stricken on April 15, 1968, and its fate was to be sold for scrap on March 17, 1971.
