The USS Davis (DD-937) was named after George Fleming Davis and was ordered on February 3, 1954. The Bethlehem Steel in Quincy, Massachusetts was given the task of building the ship, which was laid down on February 1, 1955. The ship was then launched on March 28, 1956. The US Navy acquired the USS Davis on February 28, 1957, with the commissioning occurring shortly after, on March 6, 1957.
After over 25 years of service, USS Davis was decommissioned on December 20, 1982. However, it was not stricken until July 27, 1990. The motto of the ship was "Vigilantia Pro Pacem". The fate of the USS Davis was to be scrapped.
