USS Decatur (DD-936, DDG-31)
The USS Decatur (DD-936, DDG-31) was named after Stephen Decatur. It was built by Bethlehem Steel in Quincy, Massachusetts and its construction began on September 13, 1954. The ship was launched a little over a year later, on December 15, 1955. The USS Decatur was acquired by the Navy on November 30, 1956, and commissioned just a week later, on December 7, 1956. It remained active for approximately 26 years and 6 months, until it was decommissioned on June 30, 1983.
The naval register removed USS Decatur from their records on March 16, 1988. The vessel ultimately met its fate on July 22, 2004, when it was disposed of in support of a Fleet training exercise.
