USS Denver (LPD-9)
The USS Denver (LPD-9) was named after the city of Denver, Colorado. It was operated by the United States Navy, and the contract for its construction was awarded on May 23, 1963, to the Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction in Seattle, Washington. The ship was laid down on July 7, 1964, then launched on January 23, 1965. After being commissioned on October 26, 1968, the USS Denver remained active for nearly 46 years until it was decommissioned on August 14, 2014.
Following its deactivation, USS Denver was stricken from the naval registrar on November 13, 2017. Identified by the hull number LPD-9, the USS Denver met its ultimate fate when it was sunk as a target on July 22, 2022.
