The USS Fiske (DDR-842) was a beloved naval ship named after Bradley A. Fiske and was constructed by Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. The ship was officially laid down on April 9, 1945, and later launched on September 8, 1945. It was duly commissioned on November 28, 1945, after which it remained active for several years.
The USS Fiske was reclassified twice, first as DDR-842 on July 18, 1952, and then as DD-842 on April 1, 1964. For the better part of its active years, the ship went by the motto: "Watchdog of the Fleet," a title it was given in 1952. The Fiske's service officially ended on August 6, 1987, when it was stricken.
USS Fiske was then transferred to Turkey on June 5, 1980.
