The USS Haddo (SSN-604) was ordered on March 3, 1959 and built by the New York Shipbuilding in Camden, New Jersey. The building process began with the laying down on September 9, 1960, and the submarine was eventually launched on August 18, 1962. The USS Haddo was commissioned into service on December 16, 1964 and was active for approximately 26 years and 6 months before being decommissioned on June 12, 1991. On the same day it was decommissioned, the USS Haddo was also stricken.
The USS Haddo submarine was later disposed of through a process of submarine recycling. Throughout its service, the submarine carried the Latin ship's motto 'En Guard', which translates to 'On [your] guard' in English.
