USS Harlan County remained active for 23 years and 6 months before being decommissioned on April 14, 1995. Its motto was "Swift and Sure, United We Sail". On July 23, 2002, it was stricken from the naval register. The USS Harlan County was ultimately sold to Spain on April 27, 2000.
