USS Hector (AR-7)
The USS Hector (AR-7), named for the mythological hero Hector, was constructed by the Todd Shipyard in San Pedro, California. Its launch took place on November 11, 1942, and it was officially commissioned on February 7, 1944. The vessel remained active for a total of 43 years and 1 month before its decommissioning on March 31, 1987. It was subsequently stricken from the naval record on July 1, 1994.
During its active years, the USS Hector was distinguished with a 1972 Meritorious Unit Commendation and three Humanitarian Service Medals. The ship's fate was sealed on April 20, 1989, when it was leased to Pakistan and renamed Moawin.
USS Hector returned to US custody in Singapore in 1994 before eventually being scrapped in India.
