The USS Holder, named after Randolph M. Holder, was built by the Consolidated Steel Shipyard in Orange, Texas. It was laid down on April 23, 1945, and launched on August 25 of the same year. Officially commissioned on May 18, 1946, the USS Holder remained in active service for over 30 years until it was decommissioned on October 1, 1976.
USS Holder underwent reclassification twice during its service: firstly, to DDE-819 on March 4, 1950, and then back to DD-819 on August 7, 1962. After being stricken on the same day as its decommissioning, the vessel was eventually transferred to Ecuador on February 23, 1977.
