The USS L. Y. Spear (AS-36) was a U.S. Navy ship named after Lawrence York Spear and built by the General Dynamics in Quincy, Massachusetts. The navy acquired the ship on February 11, 1970, and it was commissioned into service on February 28, 1970.

After being active for 26 years and 7 months, the USS L. Y. Spear was decommissioned on September 6, 1996. The ship was stricken, or removed from the naval register, on May 3, 1999. Eventually, the USS L. Y. Spear was sold to ESCO Marine located in Brownsville, Texas, for scrapping on July 9, 2010.
