The USS La Salle (LPD-3), named after La Salle, Illinois, was ordered on August 8, 1960. It was built by the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York. USS La Salle's final fate came on April 11, 2007, when it was sunk as a target in a Fleet training exercise.
