USS Lang (DE-1060)
The USS Lang (DE-1060), named after John Lang, was ordered on July 22, 1964. The ship was built by the Todd Shipyard in San Pedro, California and construction began when it was laid down on March 25, 1967. It was launched on February 17, 1968, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Ephraim P. Holmes. The Navy acquired the Lang on March 20, 1970, and it was commissioned eight days later, on March 28.
The USS Lang served for 21 years and 9 months before being decommissioned on December 12, 1991. The ship, identified as FF-1060, was stricken from the naval register on January 11, 1995. The Lang's motto was "1812-1970." After being avoided, it met its fate on December 15, 2001, when it was sold for scrapping.
