USS Lookout (AGR-2)
The USS Lookout (AGR-2), named for the act of careful watching for someone or something, was built by the J.A. Jones Shipyard in Panama City, Florida. It was commissioned on March 5, 1955, and served as an active Guardian-class radar picket ship for a decade and four months before being decommissioned on July 12, 1965. The ship was refitted at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Charleston, South Carolina.
USS Lookout identification changed from Hull symbol YAGR-2 (1956–1958) to Hull symbol AGR-2 (1958–1970). The Lookout was stricken on September 1, 1965, and later placed in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, specifically the Hudson River Reserve Fleet in Jones Point, New York. Eventually, the vessel was sold for scrap and by November 1970, it had been scrapped completely.
