USS Monterey (CVL-26)

The USS Monterey (CVL-26), named after the Battle of Monterey, was built by the New York Shipbuilding in Camden, New Jersey. The ship was laid down on December 29, 1941, and launched on February 28, 1943. The Monterey was officially commissioned on June 17, 1943. It was decommissioned for the first time on February 11, 1947, before being recommissioned on September 15, 1950.

The Monterey was finally decommissioned on January 16, 1956. This calendar makes the USS Monterey active for a total of around 11 years 6 months. Its fate was decided in May 1971 when it was sold for scrap.
