USS Renville (APA-227)
The USS Renville (APA-227) was named in honor of Renville County in Minnesota and North Dakota. It was built by Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver, Washington, and construction began on August 19, 1944. The ship was launched on October 25, 1944, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Orpha Penderville and was commissioned into service on November 15, 1944.
The USS Renville served actively for 23 years and 5 months until its decommission on April 23, 1968. On January 1, 1969, the ship was reclassified as LPA-227. It was stricken from the naval register on September 1, 1976. Throughout its service, the USS Renville was recognized with one battle star for World War II, two for the Korean War, and four for the Vietnam War.
The USS Renville was ultimately disposed of on February 19, 1982, but its final fate is unknown.
