USS Shenandoah (AD-44)

The USS Shenandoah (AD-44) was built by the National Steel & Shipbuilding Shipyard in San Diego, California. Construction began on August 2, 1980, and the ship was launched on February 6, 1982. It was officially commissioned into service on August 15, 1983.

The USS Shenandoah served actively for 13 years and just over a month, until it was decommissioned on September 3, 1996. The vessel was officially removed from the naval register, or stricken, on July 28, 2001. Eventually, the ship was scrapped in 2012.
