USS Trout (SS-566)
The USS Trout (SS-566) is a naval submarine named after Trout, which encompasses a number of species of freshwater and saltwater fish belonging to the subfamily Salmoninae of the family Salmonidae. The contract for its construction was awarded on May 14, 1948, to the General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut. Its keel was laid on December 1, 1949, and it was subsequently launched on August 21, 1951, an event sponsored by Mrs. Albert H. Clark.
The USS Trout was officially commissioned on June 27, 1952. The USS Trout was in active service for approximately 24 years and 6 months before it was decommissioned on January 2, 1977. It was stricken from the register on December 19, 1978. During its service, it was recognized with the Battle Efficiency Award (Battle "E") in 1961.
After being stricken, the USS Trout was transferred to the Imperial Iranian Navy on December 19, 1978.
