USS Windham Bay (CVE-92)
The USS Windham Bay (CVE-92), named after Windham Bay in the Tongass National Forest, Alaska, was ordered as a Type S4-S2-BB3 hull, MCE hull 1129 on June 18, 1942. It was built at the Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver, Washington and laid down on January 5, 1944. After being launched on March 29, 1944, it was commissioned on May 3, 1944. It was then decommissioned on August 23, 1946, before being recommissioned on October 28, 1950.
The USS Windham Bay was active for a total of 14 years and 6 months before it was decommissioned for the second time in January 1959. It was stricken from the naval register on February 1, 1959. The ship held the hull symbol CVE-92 and was honored with 3 Battle stars during its service. It was ultimately scrapped in February 1961.
